AN event has been organised for people in the borough with a learning disability or autism.

The free support event, entitled Transition and Beyond, will take place at Robin Park Sports Centre in Wigan on April 27 from 1pm to 6pm with more than 80 organisations in attendance to talk about the support and services they provide.

Transition and Beyond has had support from families who have already been given help from groups in issues such as career advice, health and fitness, respite and housing options as well as other matters.

Mayor of Wigan borough Ron Conway, who will open the event, said: “The Transition and Beyond is a fantastic event which has proved extremely popular in previous years so I am thrilled to be able to play a part in it.

“The event is a fantastic way of showing how our deal for adult social care is making a difference, and instead of focusing on someone’s disabilities, it will look at their abilities and what interests and passions they can pursue."

One of the new exhibitors this year will be iRoam, a company which uses technology to provide easier access for people with autism to access leisure facilities.

Wigan Warriors Rugby League Football Club will also be displaying their Super League and World Club Challenge trophies between 1pm and 3pm on the day with opportunities for people to take photographs.

Free parking will also be available for everyone attending the event.
