A CARE village have been treated to Easter presents after a visit involving a type of eggs they would not have been expecting.

Residents and staff from Belong Atherton were given a trip by incredible-eggs on April 10 when members from the organisation showed them incubated chicken eggs before they hatched into chicks two days later.

The newborns have been adopted permanently at the care village’s Astley Household.

Experience co-ordinator of Belong Atherton Gemma Willetts said: “It is truly wonderful to have the incredible-eggs chicks with us at Belong Atherton.

“Residents really enjoyed watching the chicks hatch and monitoring their growth and it was lovely to see everyone interacting with them.

"They definitely boosted morale in the village and helped us all get into the festive Easter spirit.”

After the chicks were born, they were also taken to residents’ rooms and given the chance to cuddle feed and water them.

Research has shown that interacting with animals has proved to reduce agitation, loneliness and depression for older people, and in particular, dementia sufferers.
