WEDNESDAY was a particularly busy day at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court involving a number of offenders from the borough.

Carl Taylor, of Cedar Road, Leigh admitted stealing £42 worth of meat from an Asda store in Wigan on April 7.

The 43-year-old was given a community order and has to adhere to a 14-day curfew requirement with electronic monitoring as well as a drug rehabilitation requirement.

He also has to pay a £43 victim services surcharge.

Leann Pilling, of Laburnham Avenue, Leigh, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards three people in the town on November 14 with intent to cause them to believe that unlawful violence would be used against them.

The 40-year-old was conditionally discharged for a year and ordered to pay a £20 victim services surcharge and £85 court costs.

Jonathon Park, of East Avenue, admitted sending abusive messages and causing a woman to fear that violence would be used against her.

But the 28-year-old pleaded not guilty to assaulting her.

He was remanded on bail for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and will return to the court on May 16.

Neil Benson, of Cameron Street, Leigh, admitted driving a car while exceeding the specified limit of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol – the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana – in his blood on both December 23 and November 16.

The 33-year-old also pleaded guilty to being caught in possession of cannabis on November 17.

He was remanded on bail for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and will return to the court on May 18.

Riham Thaher, of Hill Crescent, Leigh, was also remanded on bail for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

The 32-year-old admitted committing four counts of fraud between March 2012 and January 2015, including claiming housing and council tax benefits she was not entitled to.

She will return to the court on May 4, as will Stephen Birchall, of Charlesworth Avenue, Hindley.

The 56-year-old admitted drink driving on March 18 and has been remanded on bail for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Jon Buckley-Mellor, of Richmond Drive, Leigh, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police constable in the execution of his duty on April 13.

The 42-year-old will return to the court on May 5 after a pre-sentence report has been prepared.
