A NEW samba group are looking to drum up some interest and attract more members as they prepare to perform at the Atherton Carnival on Sunday, June 25.

Drum Krazy, a community music group specialising in Brazilian beats, practises at Pennington Hall Park in Leigh every Sunday and recently performed at a St George’s Day parade in Manchester city centre despite only being formed less than two months ago.

Mike Howard, of Buck Street, Leigh, set up the group to provide an opportunity for people to play band music in the town.

The 71-year-old said: “I only started playing drums when I was 54 and it took me three years before I felt I could play at a decent standard, but I love it now.

"I do not know what I would do without it.

"I am also very passionate about helping people to get involved in music and enjoy it.

“There have not been many opportunities to play band music in the area for a number of years so I hope I can provide that to people.

“It does not matter what standard you are as a musician, people who have never played before can come and join us.”

The group meets at the bandstand at Pennington Hall Park between 1pm and 3pm on Sundays.

Mike supplies instruments but anyone wishing to join the group is welcome to bring their own.
