'BEING absolutely terrified will not stop us from jumping out of a plane to raise money for a cancer charity'.

That is the message from workmates Sue Glover, 34, and Laura Hulme, 24, who have both lost loved ones to the killer disease and are determined to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Lowton residents, who work at Lewis William Residential Lettings in Leigh, have set up a JustGiving page with a £1,000 fundraising target for their ultimate leap of faith at Skydive Northwest in Grange-over-Sands on September 3.

That is twice as much as they raised for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in a previous daredevil challenge – a reverse bungee jump – in 2013.

Sue, who has a one-year-old daughter called Ellen, said: “We are absolutely terrified but we wanted to do something more challenging than the reverse bungee jump to raise money for such a good cause.

“A lot of people have said they think we are crazy.

"But my dad has told me it is an excellent idea and thinks we are very brave.

“Hopefully the fact we are doing a more extreme challenge this time will help us to generate even more money than we did for The Christie."

Laura, a Lowton CE High School pupil, added: “I am completely out of my comfort zone doing the skydive and my mum thinks I am a nutter.

"It is something I never thought I would do.

“As well as from friends and family we have had great support from the tenants and landlords we deal with at work.

"They also think we are crazy and have sponsored us.”

Sue lost her mum Wendy following a short battle with lung cancer in 2012 while both of Laura's granddads – Frank and Charles – died of oesophageal cancer, in 1997 and 2004 respectively.

Laura said: “I was too young to remember the support Macmillan gave my granddad Frank but I remember how much help the home service nurses were for my other granddad Charles.

"The staff also gave so much support to our family at that time, especially my nan."
