A CARE village resident was treated to the best day of her life as she got to meet the stars of her beloved Liverpool FC.

Avid Red Norma Peck, 77, who lives at Belong Atherton, was welcomed by manager Jürgen Klopp, team captain Jordan Henderson and fellow key players Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino for a tour of the world famous football club's Anfield stadium and museum.

They all took the time to talk to Norma about living in the public eye as footballing heroes and the club's charismatic Germany manager signed a Liverpool shirt for her.

The Belong Atherton care village on Mealhouse Lane arranged the dream day out with the HoneyRose Foundation, which specialises in organising trips for adults over the age of 40 with terminal illnesses.

“I have always said that visiting Anfield feeds my soul and this trip was the best I have ever had," said Norma, who has been going to the stadium to watch Liverpool play since 1946 but has been unable to attend matches in recent years due to a decline in her health.

“It was a true dream come true and I cannot think of a happier day in my entire life.

“I never thought I would have the opportunity to return to Anfield, let alone stand on the pitch I have watched as a spectator for the past 70 years.

“I cannot thank the Belong staff enough for working tirelessly to organise this wonderful experience and for joining me on the visit.”

During Norma’s visit on May 11 the club’s iconic anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone was blasted out of the stadium’s loud speakers as she sat in the home team’s dugout.

She also got to see the European Cup Liverpool have won a British record five times as well as a range of other trophies.

Gemma Willetts, experience co-ordinator at Belong Atherton, said: “It was a true honour to accompany Norma to Anfield.

“She is a devoted Liverpool fan and is known across the Belong village for watching their matches each week and knowing everything there is to know about the club.

“Both Liverpool FC and the HoneyRose Foundation pulled out all the stops to make Norma’s visit a truly memorable day and we cannot thank them enough for all their support."
