A FUNDRAISING appeal for a 13-year-old boy who has been fighting brain cancer since he was a baby has amassed nearly £7,000 in just over a fortnight.

Tyler Yates, of Farnham Close, Leigh, was diagnosed with a brain tumour on his first birthday and has since undergone brain surgery on three occasions as well as five rounds of chemotherapy and two courses of radiotherapy.

New grade four tumours were discovered in his brainstem in January and, with doctors in the UK having concluded that surgery to remove them is not an option, his mum Pamela, 39, and dad Alex, 43, have set up a JustGiving page in a bid to pay for potentially life-saving treatment in America.

They are delighted with the response from generous wellwishers.

Pamela said: “We are amazed and jaw-droppingly shocked about the amount of money people have donated to us.

“As well as friends and family, people we have not seen for years have given so much.

“There has even been donations from strangers across the world who have seen the appeal online and we are so grateful for this.

"We would like to thank everyone who has donated.”

Pamela organised a bucket collection for Tyler at a recent rugby league Challenge Cup match between Swinton Lions and Wigan Warriors at the Heywood Road stadium in Sale, which raised £850.

Elderly residents at Brookdale Court in Leigh have donated £300 and a series of fundraising events for the Bedford High School pupil will add to the coffers.

They include a comedy night headlined by Lindsay Jones at the East Leigh Labour Club on Friday, June 23, and a ladies’ pamper and cocktails day on Sunday, July 2, which will start at the Contour hair salon in Leigh before moving on to The Lock bar on Twist Lane.

The JustGiving page has a £100,000 target for the treatment in America.
