PARENTS and guardians were invited to join their children in cooking a three-course banquet at a primary school in Leigh on Tuesday.
Supported by Newton Westpark Primary's staff, including head teacher Vivien Birchall, 12 families made a range of dishes from scratch to relaunch the Tennyson Avenue school's Let’s Get Cooking scheme.
Running for a number of years as part of an after-school club, the scheme helps children to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to cook from scratch.
Miss Birchall said: "This cooking event was a huge success, bringing the school community together.
"It showed that it can be a fun and easy experience preparing healthy, fresh meals.’’
The dishes made included pea and ham soup, chilli beef wraps, paprika chicken with dumplings and fruit quenchers.
At the end of the cooking everyone sat down together to eat.
They even did the dishes afterwards.
