A MAN has admitted assaulting a woman and causing £100 damage to her mobile phone.

Jack Ashurst, of Coronation Drive, Leigh, committed the offences in the town on February 20.

The 23-year-old appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

He had failed to appear at the court on March 7 in answer to police bail.

Ashurst was conditionally discharged for 16 months and ordered to pay £65 compensation, a £30 victim surcharge and £200 court costs.

David Thackray, of Telford Crescent, Leigh, was ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work after admitting drink driving in the town on May 30.

The 29-year-old was also banned from diving for 40 months and ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Daniel Mennell, of Urmston Street, Leigh, pleaded guilty to drink driving in Wigan on March 28.

The 23-year-old was banned from driving for a year, fined £275 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Martin Novotny, of Northcroft Road, Atherton, admitted dangerous driving while over the legal alcohol limit in Leigh on May 21.

The 20-year-old will return to the court next Thursday for sentencing.

The case was adjourned for an interpreter to help with a pre-sentence report.

Alison Howard, 48, of Church Street, Leigh, and Philip Makinson, 40, of Drummond Way, face a crown court trial accused of using threatening unlawful violence towards another.

They are due to be tried at Bolton Crown Court on July 19.

Michael Unsworth, of Northwell Street, Leigh, also faces a July 19 trial at Bolton Crown Court.

The 44-year-old is accused of maliciously wounding a man in Leigh on August 18 and threatening him with a bladed weapon.
