AN arson investigation is under way after a fire broke out in a block of assisted living homes last night.
The block had to be evacuated and it took firefighters more than an hour to extinguish the flat fire on High Street in Atherton.
Crews from Atherton, Hindley and Leigh fire stations were called to the scene at 7.30pm.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the flat but no-one was injured.
Greater Manchester Police are investigating the incident and are yet to have made any arrests.
A spokesman for GMP said: "We have now taken over the investigation and are treating it as arson to endanger life."
