A MAN faces a crown court trial accused of stealing a car and a motorbike and burglary offences.

Benjamin Duffy appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The 21-year-old, of Wigan Road, Leigh, has been charged with stealing a car and motorbike in the town, on May 10 and 5 respectively.

Duff is also accused of stealing jewellery worth £1,000 in an alleged burglary in Leigh on May 10 and computer games to the value of £27 in another alleged burglary in the town on May 5.

In addition he has been charged with an attempted burglary in Wigan last Wednesday.

His trial is due to start at Bolton Crown Court on July 21.

Cieran Harrison, of Chisworth Close, Leigh, is also set to be tried there on that date.

The 31-year-old is accused of stealing £2,100 worth of items in an alleged burglary in Wigan between May 13 and 16.

Martin Lindsay, of Briar Grove, Leigh, was given a two-month prison sentence suspended for a year after twice failing to attend unpaid work appointments.

The 41-year-old was given the community service order for causing unnecessary suffering to a Staffordshire bull terrier by failing to provide him with an appropriate environment and not addressing the causes of his poor body condition and weight loss.

Lindsay now has to adhere to a three-month curfew requirement with electronic monitoring.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Anthony Eves, of Church Lane, Lowton, after he failed to appear in answer to bail.

The 72-year-old is accused of being drunk and disorderly in Wigan on October 22 and a previous court no-show.
