THERE is no shortage of five-star restaurants and pubs that serve food in the borough, according to the latest Food Standard Agency inspections.
Seven eateries in Leigh have been given a five out of five Food Hygiene Rating over the past 12 months, The Parsonage, George and Dragon, Waterside Inn, First and Last at Bar None, The Centurion, McDonald's on Bradshawgate and the Three Crowns.
The Last Orders and The Red Lion achieved the feat in Atherton, with other perfect scorers being the Hindley Arms in Hindley and the Bull's Head pub in Tyldesley.
Among the lowest scorers in the borough were Lowton's Rams Head Inn and Church Inn, with just one star each.
The zero to five ratings awarded by the FSA are based on food handling, the cleanliness of the facilities and the building and the management of food safety.
