ACTS for the inaugural Leigh Community 10k have been unveiled with some serious homegrown talent set to take to the stage.

Indie four-piece The Lottery Winners and pop and soul singer Zoe Unsworth will entertain the crowds at Leigh Town Hall during the fundraiser for Wigan and Leigh Hospice on Sunday, August 13.

Maxine Armstrong, fundraising and events manager for the Hindley hospice, said: “We are over the moon that The Lottery Winners have agreed to play at the first Leigh Community 10k.

“They are a fantastic local band who are really going places and will help us make the atmosphere really special on the day.”

The Lottery Winners, whose members hail from Leigh and Lowton, were signed to Warner Bros last year by Seymour Stein, the man behind the careers of Madonna, Talking Heads and The Ramones.

Leigh teenager Zoe was a North West Search for a Star finalist and has already released two singles at the tender age of 18.

Other acts on the day include Stetsons Electric, The Lowtones, The Vicious Circle and local schoolgirl Natalie Kamhiriri.

More than 300 people have already registered to take part in the run which encompasses three laps in the town centre.

Maxine added: “The route is flat so will appeal to runners hoping to get a coveted personal best, but people are also more than welcome to jog or walk.”

The Leigh Community 10k has been organised through a partnership between Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, FCR Events Ltd, Leigh Harriers, Nectar Creative, Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Wigan Council.

Funds raised will go towards the Counting on Care appeal to modernise the hospice’s 14-bed inpatient unit and make it dementia-friendly.

The run starts at 9.30am, with entertainment from 10am to 3pm.
