WIGAN and Leigh Archives is relocating to a bigger, brighter and easier to access space in Leigh Town Hall as part of improvements to Wigan Council’s customer services.

The service, which offers residents the opportunity to delve into the heritage of the borough, will move from the second floor of Leigh Town Hall into the ground floor, making it easier for people to access in an improved workspace for the archives team.

In order to carry out the move Wigan and Leigh Archives will be temporarily closed from Monday for two weeks, re-opening in the new space on Monday, August 7.

Lesley O’Halloran, assistant director for customer services at the council, said: “Many people across the borough enjoy using the archives, and through relocating to the ground floor of the town hall the service will become much more accessible.

“The move comes as part of the wider transformation of our customer service offer shaped by feedback from residents across the borough, allowing us to be more responsive to residents’ needs and create more functional work spaces for our staff.”

During the temporary closure Wigan Local Studies at the Museum of Wigan Life will be open as normal.
