CHILDREN across the borough are the focus of the second Wellfest week starting today.

There are a wide range of events for all the family to enjoy as well in the festival dedicated to health and wellbeing.

It follows a successful first week in June, which saw thousands of people take part in a host of activities, from cycling and walking to mental health support, and continued with various events linking up with the Wellfest ethos throughout the summer.

Cllr Jim Moodie, lead member for leisure and public health at Wigan Council, said: “We have had a fantastic summer of events which have seen thousands get out and participating in activities like the National Play Day at Haigh Woodland Park, the Leigh and Wigan 10ks and so much more.

“But there is still time to get involved in Wellfest with the second week starting.

“Whether it is a big physical challenge you are looking for or simply an opportunity to try something new, such as getting out to a Wellfest-themed session in our libraries to meet new people, there is an event to suit everyone which will help to make a difference to your health and wellbeing.”

There will be a variety of exciting launches over the next week aiming to add colour and fun to help make the borough’s residents happy and healthy, with the opportunity for them to get involved at every step of the way.

There will be a focus on simple and free activities for people to take part in, including plenty of walks for those who want to get started at a more leisurely pace.

Runners of all ages and abilities are being encouraged to help break the record for the biggest number of runners at the Pennington Park Parkrun in Leigh next Saturday, September 16.
