A WIDOW is ‘sick to the stomach’ after discovering conmen set up a scam fundraising appeal days after her husband died in a fun run.

Granddad-of-six Neil Rigby, 47, collapsed as he took part in the Wigan and Leigh 5K Colour Run at Pennington Flash Country Park with his wife June on Sunday.

A fraudulent youcaring.com fundraising page with a £100,000 target set up in June's name was spotted by one of her and Neil's two daughters, Stacey.

June, 48, said: “I am sick to the stomach that Neil’s name has been used in this way.

“My family and I cannot believe how low some people will go to take advantage of someone’s grief."

Stacey has reported the page and it is now no longer active.

She posted a picture of the page on Facebook this morning with the message: “Some lowlife, sick, twisted person has done this.

“Please do not donate to this page.

"As if our family is not broken enough.”

Sunday's event was won by 27-year-old John Lee, from Leigh, who is the partner of Neil and June's other daughter Shireen.

The family is returning to Pennington Flash at 10.30am on Saturday.

A group of family members, including some from Scotland, and friends will go to the spot where Neil collapsed on Sunday, which is around 2.8km from the finish line, and walk the rest of the course in honour of him.

June said: "When Neil found out he would be getting a medal at the event he was chuffed.

"I am hoping we can still get one for him when we cross the finish line on Saturday.

"Everyone is welcome to join us."

Neil was from Wigan and lived with June in Highfield.

He worked at food product supplier Greencore Direct to Store in Warrington.

A genuine JustGiving page has so far raised more than £1,300 for Neil's family.
