AN elderly pedestrian sustained extensive injuries to his pelvis and a broken wrist following a collision with a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision in Atherton on Friday night to come forward.

At 7.45pm a black Toyota Corolla was travelling along Bolton Road when it collided with the pensioner, who was crossing the carriageway.

Emergency services attended and the man, who is in his 70s, was taken to hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The road was closed in both directions for a number of hours while officers carried out their enquiries before being reopened.

Police constable Dermot Murray, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At this time we are supporting both the man and his family as we determine the events that led up to him being in hospital.

“Dashcam footage is a really helpful tool in our investigations so I am asking those in the area at the time who may have captured the collision to get in contact with us.

“We have already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene but are still trying to piece together the information to gain a fuller picture.”
