A SUSPECTED arson attack on a taxi rank is under investigation after a man was injured in a fire.

Sunday night’s fire at Call The Car Taxis on the corner of Lord Street and Bold Street in Leigh caused serious damage to the inside of the building and a 23-year-old man suffering from burns was taken to hospital.

Firefighters and police were called at around 9pm and the area was cordoned off for a joint investigation into the incident to be conducted.

The taxi firm reopened for business on Monday morning and the police cordon was removed in the afternoon.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Leigh, Atherton and Hindley attended the fire.

“They used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and were at the scene for approximately 90 minutes.

“Paramedics were treating a casualty, someone suffering from burns, with first aid and trauma care.

“An investigation into the fire is taking place.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the fire to come forward.
