FORREST E and Metro A fought out a thrilling draw in a Section C match that went to the wire.

In a contest that was nip and tuck throughout there was little to separate the sides right up to the last game of the night which saw Forrest's David Travis and Jack Hamer hold their nerve to win 21-19 in the last pair of men’s games against Metro’s Jack Milner and David Smith.

The opening games were shared when Metro’s second couple, Carole Lanham and Smith, won the first game 21-16 and Forrest’s Christine Travis and Mark Allen claimed the second 21-10.

Clare Stopford and Hamer, Forrest’s second couple, beat Joanne Holden and Peter Holden 21-16 in the first game before the latter hit back to take the second 22-10.

The third couples also shared their games with Forrest’s Lindsey Tait and Travis narrowly winning the first 22-20, and Barbara Butterworth and Milner claiming the second 21-19 in another nailbiter.

Metro’s two Holdens claimed the first game 21-15 when the first couples met, and Forrest’s Travis and Allan won the second 21-15.

The pattern of shared games was broken when Lanham and Smith won both games in the second couples' game 21-18, 21-18 against Stopford and Hamer.

This meant that going into the level doubles Metro had edged 6-4 in front. The first pair of ladies’ games was shared in another two closely-fought games when Forrest’s Tait and Travis took the first 22-20, and Butterworth and Holden claimed the second 21-17.

Forrest then showed their mettle in the first pair of men’s games with Travis and Allan edging close games against Milner and Holden 21-19, 21-17 to make the score 7-7.

It was another pair of shared games in the second ladies’ doubles when Tait and Stopford claimed the first 21-12 and Butterworth and Lanham replied by taking the second 21-19.

It came down to the last pair of men’s games when Metro’s Milner and Smith won the first comfortably 21-14 before Travis and Hamer secured a draw.
