A MUM has been given a suspended prison sentence and ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work following a third conviction for failing to send a child to school.

The 41-year-old from Leigh pleaded guilty to the offence committed between March 28 and July 14.

She appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

On top of the two-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and the community service the woman has to pay £100 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Christopher McClarty, of Boundary Street, Leigh, was jailed for 14 days after admitting failing to comply with supervision requirements imposed following his release from prison.

The 26-year-old failed to attend three appointments since July 26 and did not provide evidence to excuse the absences.

Magistrates took into account McClarty’s flagrant disregard for court orders when imposing the custodial sentence.
