A MAN has been convicted of threatening a civil servant with a table knife in Leigh.

Lee Ruby denied a charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or disorderly behaviour on August 7 with intent to cause her harassment, alarm or distress.

The 39-year-old was found guilty of the offence at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Ruby committed the crime while subject to a conditional discharge order for a shoplifting offence.

He was spared an immediate custodial sentence as the knife was not sharply pointed.

Rugby from Runcorn, was sentenced to 14 days in prison suspended for 12 months and given a 20-week curfew order with electronic monitoring.

He was also ordered to pay £260 compensation, a £115 victim surcharge and £260 court costs.

James Doherty, of Tamer Grove, Leigh, has been given a four-month curfew order with electronic monitoring after admitting drink driving without insurance in Hindley on September 10.

The community order handed down to the 32-year-old includes alcohol treatment and rehabilitation activity requirements.

Doherty was also banned from driving for 52 months and ordered to pay a £40 fine, an £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
