FIVE members of Halton Swimming Club travelled to Wales at the weekend to compete at the annual Swim Conwy Autumn Meet held in Llandudno.

Brothers, Ben and Sam Clayton, Jess Connolly and brother and sister Josh and Beth Howard Hughes were all looking to get off to a good start in the 2017 - 2018 swimming season and in turn obtain some qualifying times for the Cheshire and Regional Championships to be held next year.

Beth, aged 10, was first to strike gold with a great swim in the 200m butterfly in a new PB of 3.02.48s, some five seconds quicker than her previous best time.

Beth also struck gold in the 200 individual medley with another PB in a time of 2.53.72s and won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke, she also finished just outside the medals in the 50m freestyle.

Eleven-year-old Ben Clayton was next on the gold trail coming first in the 100m butterfly in a new PB of 1.16.46s and his fifteen year old brother Sam claimed gold in the 15-and-over 100m breaststroke in a new PB of 1.16.12s.

Ben also claimed bronze medals in the 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke, both in new personal best times.

Thirteen-year-old Josh won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle and bronze medals in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

Josh finished the meet with four new PB's put of five events, his most impressive coming in the breaststroke event where he knocked off a further three seconds.

Jess, 13, produced a fine swim in the 100m freestyle in a new PB of 1.11.64s. She also knocked off over a second off her 100m breaststroke time coming home in 1.34.07s. Jess finished narrowly outside the medals in the 200m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.
