AN oak tree has been planted in memory of a teenager who died earlier this year.
Family, friends and staff gathered on Monday to remember 18-year-old Niall Dearnaley, who died in May, at St. Mary’s Catholic Sixth Form Centre with St Joseph’s RC Church's Father Paul Seddon, conducting the service.
Assistant headteacher of St Mary’s Karen Roberts said: “Niall lived life to the full.
"He was very much a sociable young man who enjoyed sport and his free time with friends and precious family.
“Niall was a warm, outgoing, lively and charming, yet at the same time a deeply caring and loving young man.
“This will act as a lasting memorial to Niall and offer family, friends and staff the opportunity to remember him and the happiness that he brought to so many people.”
Nial was studying BTEC courses at the Manchester Road school and was awarded a double distinction* in sport and a distinction* in engineering.
Ms Roberts added: “These are the highest grades possible and reflect Niall’s ability and the effort and commitment he displayed within college.
“At the same time, Niall had a clear ambition for his future and worked hard to achieve the highest grades.”
