A MAN suffered a number of lacerations to his body after being assaulted following an altercation with a number of youths in a park, it has emerged.

The assault happened in Victoria Park during the early hours of Saturday, October 28.

Officers were called at 5am to reports that a 39-year-old man had become involved in a "verbal altercation" with a group of youths.

Police have not given an age for the youths but say the group included "males and females".

A police spokesman said: "The man was assaulted and suffered small lacerations to his body consistent with a bladed weapon being used. The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

"His injuries are not believed to be life threatening."

Meanwhile, Detective Inspector Craig Turner said: “The investigation is in its early stages. It appears the man was speaking to a number of youths and had become involved in a verbal altercation.

“He was then assaulted. No weapons was seen and work is ongoing to establish what was used to cause his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
