A TEENAGE singer-songwriter is set to headline her hometown's Christmas lights switch-on this year.

Zoe Unsworth, 18, will be taking to the stage at Leigh Town Hall next Thursday, November 23 in a night of entertainment which will also include a performance from The Voice Kids star Jake McKechnie.

The two-hour event will kick off at 5pm with a slot from the musical children of Westleigh High School Soul Band and will be followed by a a pantomime performance from the Turnpike Players and then a show from ABC Gymnastics.

Zoe said: "It feels great to be asked to perform at the lights switch-on in my hometown.

"It will be a fabulous atmosphere and a great event."

The lights will be switched on at 7pm by the mayor of Wigan borough, Cllr Bill Clarke, which will be followed by a spectacular firework display to round off the evening.

Wigan Council’s director for economy and environment Karl Battersby said: “The Leigh Christmas lights switch on promises to be a fantastic event and I would urge people from Leigh and the surrounding areas to come and enjoy the music and the special performances we have lined up.

“Leigh is a great place for people to do Christmas shopping with well-known high street brands alongside independent shops and of course our fabulous friendly and value for money market.

Leigh is definitely the place to be this Christmas.”

The council's Believe in Leigh Campaign and Wish FM are supporting the event.
