A KIND-hearted joiner has answered an appeal to build a Santa’s sleigh with reindeer for a children’s hospital this Christmas.

Craig Winrow, of Castle Hill Road, Hindley, was alerted to a post on social media by a nurse looking for a handyman to build the festive items which will be displayed on a ward at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The dad-of-two, who is the owner of the Mister Maker of Hindley shop on Darby Road, is taking the charitable challenge a step further by pledging to deliver the MDF satin white-painted sleigh to the hospital carrying 500 selection boxes for the children, with the majority of them donated to him from businesses.

He will do it dressed as Santa Claus on Saturday, December 2.

Craig, 44, said: “When I seen the appeal I wanted to help because of how much the kids will appreciate it.

“I managed to make the sleigh in a couple of hours but then decided they would love chocolates to go with them.

“The support we have had from local businesses in the community to provide us with the chocolates has been great.”

Craig also managed to buy 100 selection boxes after selling a candy cart he had built.

It is not the first time Craig has completed a craftwork task for a charitable cause this year.

Following the Manchester Arena bomb attack which killed 22 people in May, he built a three-foot wooden worker bee which was auctioned off for £160 which was donated to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital who young victims who were injured in the blast.

He was inspired by the Manchester Tattoo Appeal, which seen studios across the region come together to ink worker bee designs to raise money for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund to help the victims’ families.

As well as Craig dressed as Father Christmas, he will be accompanied by his children and his colleague Brendan, who will be dressed as Olaf the snowman from children’s favourite film Frozen.
