A BOMB disposal unit was sent to a Leigh road last night, Sunday, after a 'suspicious package' was reported.
Police were called to Railway Road around 10.10pm where they carried out an assessment on an item before discovering it was not a 'viable device'.
Houses were evacuated in the area as a precaution while the assessment was carried out.
