A COLLEGE is celebrating after finishing in the top eight percent of the country in league table results.

Wigan and Leigh College was ranked joint sixth with 10 other learning providers out of 202 in education publication FE Week's latest annual rankings, as well as sharing the best rating in Greater Manchester with Trafford College.

The ratings are based on four categories; college's learner satisfaction, employer satisfaction, 16-18 years positive progression and adults into employment.

The college also scored joint best in the area of employer satisfaction.

Wigan and Leigh College principal Anna Dawe said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the college and all of its students and staff.

"Our aim is always to provide more than just a qualification so to achieve such high student and employer satisfaction rates.

"Most importantly we also want to ensure that our learners move onto higher study and into employment so it is something to be especially proud of.

"Being recognised as one of the best providers in this national league table really shows the hard work of both staff and students is really paying off and we will continue to build on this moving forward.”

The table was compiled by ranking the colleges on a points-based system set against the key criteria published by the Department for Education (DfE).
