WARRINGTON-based Martin Murray will have a fifth shot at a world title on April 14.

The 35-year-old will bid to take the WBO middleweight title off fellow Englishman and MTK Global stablemate Billy Joe Saunders, who will be making his fourth defence.

It is a contest that comes about on the back of Murray is also switching to promoter Frank Warren after three years with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

Confirmation on the venue is awaited, but it is expected to be at London’s 02 Arena and on the same card as former WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan facing unbeaten American Maurice Hooker for the vacant WBO light welterweight strap.

“I’m just happy I’ve got this opportunity of a fight that I know I can win,” said Murray.

“We’d been after the fight for a while. There was always the hurdle of me being with Matchroom and Saunders being with Frank Warren, but we’ve got the same manager so it’s been agreed at management level and now I’ll be fighting with Frank Warren.

“Obviously it’s a change in stables but it’s a great opportunity and there’s no way I could knock it back. It’s always been my aim to be world champion.”

n THREE more of Warrington’s professional boxers all return to the ring on one evening.

At Preston’s Guild Hall on Saturday, March 31, Padgate’s Nathan “The Wire” Wheatley steps into the ring again after a year out injured against an as-yet-unnamed opponent.
