A LEIGH primary school is celebrating after striking gold in a national sporting scheme.
St Gabriel's Catholic Primary School has won the Gold School Games Mark Award for its commitment to the development of competitions and contribution to the community.
It has been recognised for attracting more people to its after-school clubs, increasing the number of children who have become volunteer coaches and establishing a successful sports council.
Teachers and pupils were presented with the award by World Championship Gold medallist gymnast Beth Tweddle at Lowton High School.
A spokesman for the school said: "We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including our young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible."
The accolade was given to the school for its performance in the 2016/17 academic year.
The award, which is led by the Government and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, was launched in 2012.
