A WOMAN who recently celebrated her 40th birthday is looking to reach a landmark in memory of her mum.

Mum-of-two Stacey Kirkpatrick, of Rivington Street, Atherton, lost her mum, Gerry, 13 years ago who died after a short battle with motor neurone disease.

In the last three years, she has completed a series of events including climbing Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, with 26 people to raise money and awareness of a charity that helped her mum and family, the Manchester and district branch for the MND Association.

Stacey is just under £3,000 short of generating £40,000 for the charity and is determined to achieve that feat this year to raise “40 at 40”.

Stacey, who owns Arc Homes on Market Street, said: “It would be absolutely amazing to raise the money this year.

“I want to give something back for how much they helped my mum when she was diagnosed.

“The support they give to my dad and the rest of the family after she died was great too.”

As well as scaling Kilimanjaro, Stacey has completed a number of other physical challenges such as two 5ks, 10ks and her first half-marathon in September, The Great North Run.

She also volunteers for the MND Association and provides help to people holding fundraising events for the charity.

Stacey added: “As well as reaching the target, it would be great to increase the awareness of the work that the charity do.”
