A BRITISH Olympian dropped in to visit children at a nursery which is on a mission to tackle obesity.

Jenny Meadows, who competed for Team GB at Beijing in 2008 in the 800m event, called in at Holyrood Nursery in Astley to see how children are benefitting from a fitness scheme which was launched two years ago.

The Manchester Road nursery has been working closely with GreaterSport and their under five's Greater Manchester development officer Sharon Skade to introduce healthy activities such as yoga and outdoor exercise to reduce child obesity.

A weekly programme was developed with a specific physical development room set up where exercise is carried out.

Sharon informed Jenny Meadows about the work that is being done and then she went to the nursery to speak with the children and staff about it.

She also took part in races with the children.
