A NINE-year-old girl is climbing Mount Snowdon in aid of a cause close to her heart.

Eva Glassman-Humphreys, from Atherton, will be scaling the highest mountain in Wales to help a charity which supports her grandmother Alison Cleary, who lives with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Alison was diagnosed with MS in 1997 when Evie’s mum Amy was 13.

Amy said: “Mum had her first symptoms when she was a teenager but it took so long to get a diagnosis back then.

“As she has got older it started to affect her mobility even more.

“We used to go out for meals with the kids or take them to the zoo, but it has become really challenging for her.

I think MS gets in the way of her being the grandma she wants to be.

“Eva has only known Granny to walk with a stick or a frame and we have always been very open when she has asked questions.

“She knows MS is really unpredictable and it is only going to get worse.

“But she is one of these little girls who wants to help people.”

Eva, who will be completing the challenge on June 9 to generate funds for the MS Society, cut off her ponytail last year to raise £430 for the charity and also organised a cake sale at her school.

She was inspired to climb Snowdon after watching her mum, step-dad and family friend complete the National Three Peaks Challenge two years ago.

“I hope it will help find something that can make Granny better quickly and help other people too. MS is really sad, but fundraising can help families like mine,” Eva said.

Amy added: “Everything Eva has done for the MS Society has been her idea.

“ We are very proud of her and I know it makes my mum very emotional.”

Her grandmother Alison said: “I am so proud of all the fundraising Eva has done and I know she is really looking forward to raising more money and awareness for MS when she does her climb in June.”
