AN appeal has been launched after a man was left with serious facial injuries following an "unprovoked assault" at a nightclub.

Police were sent to Play and Rewind on King Street in Wigan after a 27-year-old man was struck to the head, causing him to stagger, before he received a second blow which caused him to fall to the ground unconscious.

The victim, who had only just bought a drink and was standing near the front door, was taken to hospital where he was treated with a broken jaw, broken cheekbone and face fractures.

He has since been released from hospital.

Once enquiries were made, police were informed a white male was seen fleeing the club shortly after the assault wearing dark trousers and a white t-shirt.

No more information of the suspect has been released.

Police are asking witnesses of the attack to come forward.

The incident happened at around 4am on Sunday, April 8.

Police Constable Andrew Davies of GMP’s Wigan division said: “This was an unprovoked assault on a member of the public who was simply enjoying a night out.

“The victim sustained a number of serious facial injuries and may suffer a long term impairment of vision due to the assault.

“Thankfully he has now been released from hospital and we wish him well during his recovery.”
