POLICE have responded to concerns raised about a group of men who had been 'sleeping rough' near The Iron Bridge in Hindley.

Officers carried out patrols in the area and discovered evidence of a makeshift camp.

Posting on the GMP Leigh, Atherton and Hindley, a force spokesman said: "Following concerns by residents, police were called to investigate a potential site were three males had been sleeping rough in the wooded area close to The Iron Bridge in Hindley.

"Upon arrival there was no-one to be seen, although there was evidence that someone had been inhabiting the area.

"Details were left at the site for contact should any of the males require help or support.

"The council cleansing team have been informed to remove the rubbish from this area."
