A DOCTOR’s practice has been ordered to improve after its latest inspection.

Dr Anis and Anis, which is based at Golborne Health Centre, was given a rating of “requires improvement” by inspectors from healthcare watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The Kid Glove Road facility overall score has dropped after it was categorised as “good” in its last CQC report which was published in December 2016.

The report found that the centre needs to improve in the three areas of safety, being caring and its leadership.

CQC inspectors said: “The practice did not carry out staff checks in a consistent manner on recruitment. Some recently recruited staff had no references on file.

“There was not an effective system to manage infection prevention and control.

“The lead for infection control had received no training.

“Structures, processes and systems to support good governance and management were not always clearly set out, understood and effective, and were not applied consistently.”

There were some positive aspects that were highlighted in the report.

In the areas of effectiveness and responsiveness to people’s needs, the surgery was given a rating of “good”.

The report added: “Patients’ immediate and ongoing needs were fully assessed.

“This included their clinical needs, and their mental and physical wellbeing.

“Patients were able to access care and treatment from the practice within an acceptable timescale for their needs.

“The practice took complaints and concerns seriously and responded to them appropriately to improve the quality of care.”

The report was published after an announced inspection on March 7.

In response to the findings in the report, Dr Anis said: “We were disappointed to be rated as ‘requires improvement’ in our latest CQC inspection but were pleased that they recognised we deliver evidence-based care and ‘treat patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect’.

“We are reviewing the CQC report carefully and are working closely with Wigan Borough CCG to identify areas we can improve.

“Our focus continues to be on delivering the best care for our patients.”
