LEIGH Centurions face bottom club Doncaster to Hilton Park on Sunday in the knowledge that a win could boost the team on two counts - cementing a play-off berth while helping to halt a crisis of confidence that threatens their entire season and has contributed to the side conceding 106 points in their last two games.

"The players are lacking a great deal of confidence," admits Leigh football manager Darren Shaw.

"They are all really shattered with what's going on and what's happened in the previous two weeks. We know that we haven't set the world on fire this season.

"There's been a great deal of upheaval and a lot more debutants over the year which I don't think many clubs have gone through before but the reality is that if we win this weekend, we should definitely consolidate our place in the semi-finals.

"It's then about putting things right. At the end of the day we are in a knock out competition in a couple of weeks time and if we can build ourselves enough momentum and get a bit more confidence over the next three weeks, we can go to Halifax or wherever with confidence."

Despite being deeply disappointed by several facets of last Sunday's Shay nightmare, Shaw acknowledged the current form of Miles Greenwood.

He said: "Miles was one of the players that wanted the ball. It was obvious some were hiding from it but he was one that wanted it. He's getting results off the back of it. He's putting himself in places where he probably shouldn't be, working off the ball really well and he's creating things and making things happen for himself. He's been great."

Meanwhile the Leigh boss looks set to welcome Sam Butterworth and Dana Wilson back to his squad after both missed out last Sunday.

Butterworth is expected to return from an ankle complaint while Wilson returns after his partner gave birth to a baby girl in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Less positive news surrounds young second row Adam Thomas. The 19-year old dislocated a shoulder at Spotland almost three weeks ago and will have an operation that will end his season. Chris Hough is also an injury doubt after being unable to come back on after half-time at Halifax and Tommy Grundy is to have a scan on his damaged shoulder.

Shaw also revealed that he has heard nothing back from other players in his squad that were offered terms for next season.

"We had offered initial contracts to several players and given them a bit of a deadline to the end of July, beginning of August. Unfortunately we've still received no feedback. As far as I'm concerned I'm very busy looking at players. I've got one eye on next year and if a couple of players come up after September 1 and if we agree terms with them then unfortunately some people may miss out."
