A WOMAN who has battled cancer is taking on a new challenge after a life-changing experience.

Donna Powell has been training for a scuba diving event at Howe Bridge Leisure Centre in Atherton with an experienced team of professionals called the Sub C Divers.

She will be putting her new skills to the test on Sunday, June 3 at Capernwray Dive Centre in Jackdaw Quarry in Lancashire.

The 54-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 before she had three weeks of radiotherapy at The Christie Centre in Manchester.

She has been in remission for three years.

Donna said: “Since having my treatment I have had a new outlook on life and have tried new things such as a sky dive, a walk across hot coals for The Christie’s Firewalk and some 10k running events.

“My friend Mike Court, who works at the Sub C Divers, told me about the challenge which is something I have never done before so I decided to sign up for it.”

Donna, who is raising money for The Christie, has praised the work of the Sub C Divers.

She added: “The divers have given me amazing support and the training has been interesting and rewarding.

“Some of them will be doing the challenge with me too.”
