PLANS to build 192 homes next to a Hindley farm have been approved by Wigan Council.

Countryside will build a mixture of two, three and four bedroom properties next to Owens Farms, near Smiths Lane, with work expected to start immediately.

The development, which will named Belmont House, will have 93 homes available for sale on the open market, 50 for private rent and the remaining 49 managed by affordable housing group Torus.

Ten of the properties will be available for affordable rent and 39 will be on sale through shared ownership.

Regional sales and marketing director at Countryside Deborah Hughes said: “The region is calling out for high quality family homes and these plans aim to cater to that growing need.

"Our vision for this scheme is to create a welcoming community that will stand the test of time for generations to come.

"We look forward to building on our already successful partnerships with Wigan Council and Sigma Capital Group to deliver these much-needed homes.”

Sigma Capital Group, who recently worked on the Hamilton Square development on Gloucester Street in Atherton, will manage the project.

It will be marketed by the Sigma's private rental brand Simple Life.

Torus director of development Bill Lacey added: “This is our first scheme in Wigan and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to give local people the chance to rent or buy a stunning new home without overstretching themselves financially.”
