A MAN has been ordered to complete 200 hours of community service after assaulting a police officer.
Ben Halton, of Langford Drive, Leigh, admitting assaulting the officer in Wigan on April 14 when he appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Monday.
The 32-year-old also pleaded guilty to refusing to provide a breath sample when he was suspected of driving by police.
He refused to surrender to custody on May 2 as well after being bailed at Wigan Police Station following the incident.
Along with the community service order which he must finish in the next year, Halton has been handed an £85 victim services surcharge fee, court costs of £85 and a compensation fee of £100.
The defendant has been banned from driving for 12 months which may be reduced by 13 weeks if he completes a course.
