HERE are pictures that that have been sent to us from audience members of the Lionel Richie concert at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday night.

Concert-goers marvelled at the legendary singer's performance and enthused about the quality of the atmosphere in the venue.

He was supported by ex-Westlife singer Shane Filan who warmed up the crowd before the American superstar took to the stage.

Before the gig, the Whistling Wren pub and Morrisons store were packed out with revellers.  

Merchandise was sold rapidly outside the venue with Lionel masks and t-shirts donning the words of "Leigh First Vegas Later" proving to be popular purchases.

Groups of people also brought deckchairs with them and had picnics on the grass verges.

Around 200 people without tickets soaked up the ambience outside the stadium while the gig was taking place.

Tamara Blake said: "I had an amazing time- what an atmosphere."

Denise Thomason said: "We had a fabulous night with Lionel at Leigh Sports Village. It was fantastic to see everyone dancing singing and having fun."

Susan Walford added: "It was a great night."

Carol Tidgwell: "It was a fabulous night with Lionel and it stopped raining too."

On social media, MP Jo Platt expressed her delight about the gig.

She said: "Lionel In Leigh! What a great night for our town.

"Well done to Leigh Sports Village and everyone else involved for making this a huge success."
