A DAD-of-two who beat a rare form of cancer is getting ready to get on bike in support of a cause close to his heart.

Chris Hulme, of Penleach Avenue, Leigh, will be riding 63 miles from Manchester to Blackpool on Sunday, July 8 with his daughter Lucy, 14, to provide funds for The Christie Cancer Centre where he had treatment.

The 47-year-old was diagnosed with T Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) in July 2017 and had treatment at Salford Royal Hospital.

Chris, who is now in remission, had a stem cell transplant in February and has just returned to work.

IT manager Chris is looking forward to the challenge, which a couple of his friends will also be taking part in.

He said: "It will be social ride and that is the reason why we have picked it so we can do the event alongside other people doing it for good causes.

"I am eternally grateful to The Christie and the NHS- they have been superb.

"I was told there is only two cases a year in the UK that has my type of cancer and that there is only a 50 per cent survival rate so I am very lucky.

"It will be great to put something back, however nominal, even though it will never reach the lengths, heights and extents what they have done for me.

"Lucy has taken part in charity events before but never done anything as anything as tough as this so it is going to be a real milestone."

Chris, who has cycled from Manchester to Leeds and back in aid of Cancer Research, has praised his friends and family for their support with the challenge.

He set up a crowdfunding page last week which has generated more than £1,200.

Chris added: "People's support and generosity so far has exceeded our expectations."
