LEIGH town centre is set to be a hive of activity for the second annual event of a charity fun run.

The Leigh Community 10K will take place at 9.30am on Sunday, August 12 and there will be a range of market stalls, fairground rides and activities set up at Leigh Town Hall square on the day.

Leigh Centurions will bring its sensory dome and will be organising a variety of games, tombolas and raffles which will be running throughout the morning.

Market stalls will be open until noon.

Last year, more than £10,000 was raised for Wigan and Leigh Hospice with 600 runners taking part in the event.

Fundraising and Lottery manager for Wigan and Leigh Hospice Maxine Armstrong said: “The Leigh 10K is an event for the whole community to enjoy.

“Whether you are taking part in the event or not, there will be something for everyone.”

The run has been organised through a partnership between Inspiring healthy lifestyles, FCR Events Ltd, Leigh Harriers, Nectar Creative, Wigan and Leigh Hospice and Wigan Council.

Managing director of Inspiring healthy lifestyles Peter Burt said: “We’re delighted to be taking the Leigh 10k into its second year.

“This is a fantastic collaboration between community providers and there are a whole host of attractions on offer, meaning there is something for absolutely everybody.

“The run itself is open to residents of all levels of experience so I look forward to welcoming people from right across the borough and beyond aiming to beat their own personal best or run this distance for the very first time, all while raising money for worthy causes.”

The route for the run is flat and people will also be able to jog or walk the journey if they prefer.

This year, there are enough spaces for 1,000 people to take part.
