AN investigation has been launched after a thug demanded money off a taxi driver in an attempted robbery this morning, Wednesday.

The driver was parked up on Kirkhall Lane in Leigh at around 5.45am waiting for a fare when a masked man approached his car.

The driver became suspicious of the man and started to drive off.

As he did this, the culprit opened the driver's door of the taxi and demanded money.

The victim managed to drive away with the door open.

When he got away he realised the passenger door had been opened by a second man.

The man who threatened the driver was described as wearing a black face mask and a black jacket with his hood up, and of a slim build.

The second culprit was reportedly wearing a light brown jacket, and also of a slim build.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
