A THUG who stabbed a man eight times and punched a woman in the early hours of Christmas Day has been jailed today, Friday.

Devenn Sutherman broke into his ex-girlfriend's house on Corner Lane in Leigh through the back door at 3am and stabbed the woman's new partner multiple times with a knife while shouting abuse at him.

The victim managed to wrestle the weapon off Sutherman, 26, and escape outside.

Sutherman, of Nelson Square, Bolton, then chased the man.

He then returned to the house and punched his ex-partner in the face and stabbed her in the leg.

Sutherman then ran off down a nearby alleyway.

The two victims managed to flag down a passing ambulance before they were taken to hospital.

The man suffered four stab wounds to his back and further wounds to his neck, chest and abdomen.

Detective Constable Lynsey Watson-Perry of GMP’s Wigan Borough, said: “Sutherman violently stabbed his former girlfriend and her partner in a fit of jealous rage after forcing his way in to her home in the early hours of Christmas Day.

“Sutherman fled the scene, and actively evaded arrest for a number of weeks to avoid facing the consequences of carrying out this brutal attack.

“Today he will face up to what he has done, and spend years in prison considering his actions.”

Sutherman, who pleaded guilty to section 18 assault, section 47 assault and aggravated burglary was handed a sentence of 13 years at Bolton Crown Court.
