THE deadline for people to make their nominations in a sports awards is approaching.

Nominations for the annual Believe Sports Awards close on Friday, July 27.

The awards, which is in its 18th year, recognises athletes hoping to compete internationally and rewards volunteers for their hours of support.

Club secretary at Leigh Genesis FC, Rob Atherton, collected last year’s Club of the Year award.

He said: “It was a fantastic honour to be so formally recognised and a credit to our hard working club officials and loyal members.

“The award has given us the motivation to press on and try to achieve other key successes and milestones.”

The ceremony will be held at the DW Stadium in Wigan on Friday, October 12 and will include special guests from across the professional sporting community.

It is organised by Inspiring healthy lifestyles on behalf of Wigan Council

Cllr Jim Moodie, lead member for leisure at the council, said: “The Believe Sports Awards is the perfect opportunity to recognise the commitment and support of coaches, volunteers, athletes and clubs across the borough.

“I encourage people to continue to put names forward over these final two weeks of nominations so that these invaluable contributions are celebrated.”
