AN activity event for young disabled people with additional needs will be held on Thursday.

It will take place at Leigh Sports Village from 10am to 3pm and will feature inclusive sport, a wildlife trail and a virtual reality experience.

The event is run by Leonard Cheshire's Can Do volunteering programme, which supports disabled people with additional needs aged from 10 to 35 across the UK to take part in volunteering, sport, gardening and conservation activities.

The programme is designed to get people to be more active, meet new people and gain confidence.

It is organised in partnership with the Carbon Landscape partnership and young people from Expanse and My Life.

Sandra Hardingham, Leonard Cheshire’s Can Do project co-ordinator, said: “We’re very excited about a day that will give local young people a real mix of experiences and an opportunity to try something new.

"It’s indicative of our commitment to getting greater numbers of young disabled people involved in sport, learning new skills and playing a more active role in their local communities.”

Places for the event are limited.
