A GREAT-grandmother is set to have her hair shaved off in aid of a cause close to her heart.
Sheila Harbridge, of Tintern Avenue, Astley, will have her hair chopped off at 1pm today, Wednesday, to raise funds for Parkinson's UK.
Her husband, Ron, 74, who worked as an electrician on major contracts at sites such as hospitals and colleges, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and dementia in 2016
The couple have been married for 29 years
Sheila, 69, who is Ron's full-time carer, said: "Ron used to be a very active man and we met each other through dancing.
"We also run a ballroom and sequence dancing class in Leigh for 12 years which we enjoyed doing.
"I wanted to do something to support Parkinson's UK after the advice they have given me in the last six months in particular.
"My hair has always been my pride and joy and it will be a big sacrifice to get it shaved off.
"A lot of people have said I am mad for going ahead with it."
Sheila has set up a crowdfunding page to raise money for Parkinson's UK.
