TWO brothers are set to complete one of the toughest physical challenges in the UK tomorrow, Saturday, in aid of charity.

Gary and Daniel Shorrock, from Leigh, will take part in a 28-mile obstacle course which will involve climbing around 4,200 feet near the Lake District and crossing the quicksands at Morecambe Bay. The event is called Rat Race Man vs Lakes.

Gary, 49, has carried out similar challenges to this one in the last four years in which he has raised money for Cancer Research after his mum Irene died from the disease in 1993.

Dad-of-two Gary, who runs a metal recycling and storage business, said: "This is the longest and most physically demanding we could have done.

"It will be difficult running on the sands at Morecambe Bay which will be a hard and wet surface and there will be some ditches to wade through as well."

Gary signed up for his first obstacle event after his younger brother, accountant Daniel, 32, who had already completed long distance events, challenged him to do one.

For the event tomorrow, Gary has set up a crowdfunding page in which people are inviting to donate money to buy raffle tickets in exchange for prizes.

The person who draws the top prize will get a Fitbit watch and have the deciding vote on which charity the money will be sent to.

A Marks and Spencers gift card and Nandos voucher is also up for grabs.

The raffle draw will be made at the end of the challenge.

Gary added: "I love doing the challenges as it is nice to give something back to the charities who do so much for people."
