RESIDENTS without a central heating system are being offered the chance to get one for free in time for winter.
It is part of the Greater Manchester Warm Homes Funds which will install “first-time central heating systems in 500 homes across the region on a first come first served basis.
The £1.8 million scheme has been secured by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the local authorities from the national Warm Homes Fund.
Professor Kate Ardern, director for public health at Wigan Council said: “Living in a cold home carries a number of health risks including flu and more serious conditions such as heart disease, stroke and also depression.
“I would urge anyone who is struggling to stay warm to check if you are eligible for the scheme before you miss out.”
Owner occupiers and private tenants, with their landlord’s permission, may apply.
People may be eligible for support if you have a low income, high fuel bills and a long term health condition.
To check eligibility contact AWARM Plus on 01942 239360 or visit wigan.gov.uk/warmhomes for more information.
